Fried Marinated Tofu with Peanut Dipping Sauce

Flavourful tofu that is crispy on the outside, while tender and soft on the inside. Served with a warm spicy peanut dipping sauce. This would be perfect as a starter or side dish, especially for someone who like me, is virtually addicted to tofu.

Yield; Three to four servings (as a starter/side dish) Cook time; 15 minutes

You’ll need;

For the marinated tofu;

  1. One 400g block of firm tofu
  2. One tablespoon toasted sesame oil
  3. One tablespoon soy sauce
  4. Two tablespoons of water
  5. One teaspoon of Chinese five spice
  6. One tablespoon of smoked paprika

For the peanut sauce;

  1. One tablespoon of peanut butter (crunchy or smooth)
  2. One tablespoon soy sauce
  3. One or two tablespoons of water
  4. One teaspoon of hot sauce (or use cayenne pepper instead)

Method;

  • Drain and press a 400g block of tofu. (Click HERE if you want to learn how to drain and press tofu) Slice the tofu into ten equal sized pieces.
  • Whisk together all the marinade ingredients. Lay the tofu in a shallow dish and cover with the marinade. Refrigerate for a minimum of 30 minutes, although I find marinating overnight is best.
  • Once you’re ready to cook the tofu, heat a little oil in a large frying pan over a medium high heat. Fry each piece for seven minutes before turning and frying for a further seven minutes.
  • While the tofu is cooking prepare the peanut sauce. Mix together the sauce ingredients in a small dish until well combined. (The sauce can be served either warm or at room temperature.)
  • Once the tofu is cooked serve immediately with the spicy peanut sauce.

Bye for now đŸ™‚
